Volodymyr Kochmar studied at the Kharkiv State Art School from 1990 to 1992, and then at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts from 1992 to 1997. Since 1997, he has been teaching drawing at the Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, where he currently holds the position of Associate Professor. In 2000, he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Kochmar has participated in numerous exhibitions and symposiums at regional, national, and international levels. His work includes plaques, busts, and monuments, and he is widely recognized for his figurative sculptures, portraits, reliefs, and miniature carvings in wood and stone.
Among his distinctions, he was awarded the Grand Prix at the Ukrainian Sculpture Triennial in 2008 for his sculpture “Adam and Eve”, and won first prize for “Chariot 1” and “Chariot 2” at the 2020 edition of the same triennial.
His works are featured in several museum collections, including the Soviart Museum of Contemporary Art in Kyiv, Mystetskyi Arsenal in Kyiv, the Sergiy Vasylkivskyi Municipal Gallery in Kharkiv, and the Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv. In addition, his sculptures are installed in multiple countries, including France, Canada, Japan, Germany, Turkey, China, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Russia.
In 2022, he received the Grand Prix at the 4th Yukuhashi Sculpture Symposium in Japan.
In May 2023, Volodymyr Kochmar participated in the 5th Sculpture Symposium in Oberhaslach, Alsace, France, where he left a lasting artistic mark in the Alsatian forest.
